OREGON CITIZENS PANEL WILL WEIGH IN ON BALLOT MEASURES FOR NOVEMBER ELECTION

Kenny Burke didn’t think he’d be chosen. He had returned the postcard, mostly at the behest of his wife. Only weeks later, Burke learned he’d been selected to be part of a panel that would review a citizen initiative bound for the November ballot. And for the first time, a citizen panel’s opinion would have a dedicated page in the Oregon Voters’ Pamphlet.

Still, the out-of-work auto mechanic from Klamath Falls was skeptical.

“It really wasn’t till I got here today that I realized what it was all about,” Burke said. “It’s all new to me, but it feels real good to be part of a whole new process for the state.”
