From The Daily Astotrian:
Healthy Democracy Oregon is one of the best things to happen to Oregon in the past 20 years. It helps the average voter demystify the confusing world of ballot initiatives. For its Citizens Initiative Review program, Healthy Democracy Oregon brings a group of randomly selected Oregonians to Salem for a week to learn about measures on the November ballot. The group hears from the measures proponents and opponents and from experts in relevant fields.
This approach mirrors what our newspaper group has attempted in the past decade. We have convened advocates and opponents of ballot measures, to give our editors the opportunity to hear everything in one sitting. But Healthy Democracy Oregon takes this process many steps further.
