PORTLAND-AREA CASINO PROPOSAL PANNED BY CITIZEN PANEL

A citizen panel charged with reviewing ballot measures has come out against one that would allow Oregon’s first non-tribal casino to be built near Portland.

Supporters of the casino aren’t wasting time trying to drum up voter support however. They launched the first TV ad of the campaign Friday, becoming the first ballot measure spot to hit the airwaves.

After hearing from advocates and opponents of Measure 82, which would amend the state Constitution to allow private casinos, 17 members of the Citizen Initiative Review panel opposed it and seven supported it.
