2018 Citizens’ Initiative Review Pilot

Massachusetts held its second CIR pilot Sept. 12-15, 2018, in Watertown. Massachusetts State Rep. Jonathan Hecht and the Tisch College of Civic Life at Tufts University have again partnered on this project. Learn more on the new Massachusetts CIR website.

There is active legislation in the Massachusetts legislature to make the Citizens’ Initiative Review process an official, funded part of the commonwealth’s election procedure.

2016 Citizens’ Initiative Review Pilot

Healthy Democracy, Massachusetts State Representative Jonathan Hecht, and the Tisch College of Civic Life at Tufts University partnered to bring the first statewide Citizens’ Initiative Review process to Massachusetts in 2016. Legislation to make the Citizens’ Initiative Review process an official part of Massachusetts elections has been introduced in the Massachusetts legislature this year.
